Interview: Chelsea Fine.

I'm thrilled to have Chelsea Fine here answering some questions!

About Chelsea
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born in Tucson, Arizona and lived there until I was fourteen. I moved to the Phoenix area my freshman year of high school (boy was that fun!) and have lived here ever since. I think “home” is an ever-evolving thing for me. Five years ago, I would have called my parents’ kitchen home. (It is, after all, where my mom feeds me.) But now I think “home” is my living room couch, curled up next to my hubby and our two kiddos. Wow. I sound sappy, haha. But I can’t help myself. It’s true.
What writers inspire you?

I want to be Veronica Roth when I grow up. But I’m also a huge fan of Cassandra Clare, Jennifer Castle, and John Green.
Book for a long journey?
The Count of Monte Cristo. It lasts for days.
For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books?
Paperback copies of books are the best! You can underline in red pen and dog-ear the corners and leave tearstains on the pages. That’s what reading is all about.

About Writing
How do you plan your books?
I fly by the seat of my pants. It’s terrifying and unpredictable. I love it!
Do you know how a book will end as you start writing it?
Sometimes. Not usually, though. Sometimes I think it’s better not to know. Like…I go on the journey with my characters without knowing the outcome, and sometimes that makes me experience their emotions in the same raw way a reader might. I don’t know.
Do you plan an entire series, or take it book-by-book?
The correct answer here is “I plan the entire series.” But that would be a big fat lie. *grins*

Where do your ideas come from? The crazy Wonderland that is my brain, haha. I usually get inspired by pictures I see, or movies I watch, or songs I hear, and then I just let my imagination go wild with that inspiration.
About New Adult
What first drew you to New Adult?
The age group! 18-25 is sort of like a Dark Age and I LOVE the concept of giving characters that fall into this lost time some roles in the literary world. Instead of only knowing what their first kiss/love/heartbreak was like in high school and then jumping right into their career lives in their thirties, we can actually let all the significant life changes of their “college years” play out. Forget high school, those are the years that truly shape us.
Why did you want to write a New Adult book?
Because I wanted to write characters who had to figure out their futures beyond prom dresses and graduation. Not that there’s anything wrong with those things, I just wanted to write something with more at stake.
What does “New Adult” mean to you?
Characters who are new at being adults and living in an adult world without the supervision/threat/safety of parents.
What would you love to see next in New Adult?

More paranormal New Adult. And maybe a “New Adult” version of some popular Young Adult book series? That might be fun.

What's next
What are you working on at the minute?
I’m currently finishing up my first New Adult book, as well as working on my first MG series.
The New Adult book is about childhood friends who grow up together, experience a tragedy, and drift apart. But a year later, they end up living next door to one another for the summer and find it difficult to keep the past, well…in the past. It’s a story about hurt and healing, and true love of course.
And the MG series is about a young girl who stumbles upon some magic in Scotland and goes on a wild ride through a world steeped in fantasy, beauty, and danger in order to find her way back home.
Eeek! I’m so excited for both!
On Chelsea's Upcoming New Adult novel.
Tell us what your book is about in 140 characters or less.
What was I thinking, living under the same roof as Levi’s blue eyes? There’s no way I’ll survive the summer. I can barely survive breakfast.
Is this book part of a series?
No. At least that’s not my intention. However, there are some secondary characters that I would love to write about in the future.
What was your favourite chapter (or part) to write and why?
I loved writing the scene where my two main characters first kissed. It was sweet and intense…and it took place in a fort during an epic game of Capture the Flag, so yeah. Big fun.
Tell us about the cover/s and how it/they came about.
With the exception of Sophie & Carter, I’ve handled all my book covers personally. I have a great photographer (Ashley Bugg with Bugg Photographer) who shot the cover models for my Archers of Avalon series, and I have a love/love relationship with Photoshop where I design my own covers like a true control freak.
Leave us with a teaser/quote from your book?
'Levi is so distracting. His arms are all raised, and his shoulders are all broad, and he’s fixing crap, and it’s just...just...annoying.
I pry my eyes off his back and force my feet to the stove where I throw vegetables into a pan, grab a wooden spoon, and ignore his close proximity.
My body hums.
I ignore that too.
He’s unscrewing the cover of the fire alarm and his arm moves with the motion. Why does he have so many muscles in his forearm? That can’t be healthy. I drop my eyes to the pan and focus on bell peppers.
Because bell peppers are interesting and they don’t have forearm muscles or backs the size of Alaska.
The forearm muscles that I’m not thinking about lightly brush against my shoulder and the humming inside my body knots together and zips around like a bumblebee on crack.
I casually turn down the heat on the stove, like that’s the reason I’m suddenly a human vibrator, and go back to stirring. Levi goes back to screwing.
Bell peppers.
I’m thinking about bell peppers.
But those blasted muscles can’t seem to keep their distance and soon enough Levi brushes against me again.
Except this time his forearm grazes my breast and my body immediately goes wild like I’m some love-starved teenager and the humming dives low in my belly and the stove gets hotter and my breaths get shallow and suddenly bell peppers are the sexiest vegetable on earth.
From the corner of my eye, I catch Levi’s Adam’s apple bobbing with a nervous swallow, which can only mean one thing. The boob brush was an accident.
Well crap.
If he had been trying to cop a feel with his Hulkish forearm, I could have responded with some kind of snarky “you’re a pervert” comment. But it wasn’t on purpose and somehow that makes it sexier and now the cracked-out bumblebee is buzzing in my nether regions and my hands are starting to tingle and why the HELL is this stove so hot?
He lowers his arm for a moment, his eyes still on the alarm, and stretches his neck.
Ah, the neck stretch. Then universal sign of stress. Well at least I’m not alone in my frustration. My hot, distracting, pants-are-so-inconvenient frustration.
Wait, what? Who said anything about pants? I am NOT thinking about pants—or the lack thereof. Damn you, bell peppers!
I toss the wooden spoon to the side and move back to the counter where I pretend to be fascinated by a list of omelette ingredients.
I bite back a groan. What was I thinking, living under the same roof as Levi? There’s no way I’ll survive the summer.
Hell, I can barely survive breakfast.'

Thank you Chelsea Fine for asking the questions and to New Leaf Literacy for giving me the chance to do this interview as part of their Addicted to New Adult feature.

Much Love!

Blog Tour: Dirty Little Secret by Jennifer Echols.

Bailey wasn’t always a wild child and the black sheep of her family. She used to play fiddle and tour the music circuit with her sister, Julie, who sang and played guitar. That ended when country music execs swooped in and signed Julie to a solo deal. Never mind that Julie and Bailey were a duet, or that Bailey was their songwriter. The music scouts wanted only Julie, and their parents were content to sit by and let her fulfil her dreams while Bailey’s were hushed away.
Bailey has tried to numb the pain and disappointment over what could have been. And as Julie’s debut album is set to hit the charts, her parents get fed up with Bailey’s antics and ship her off to granddad’s house in Nashville. Playing fiddle in washed-up tribute groups at the mall, Bailey meets Sam, a handsome and oh-so-persuasive guitarist with his own band. He knows Bailey’s fiddle playing is just the thing his band needs to break into the industry. But this life has broken Bailey’s heart once before. She isn’t sure she’s ready to let Sam take her there again…

Why?
I have wanted to read Jennifer Echols for years so I jumped at the chance to read her latest book! I loved the idea of Nashville and country music in a YA Contemporary.

First Impressions!
I've been catching up on Nashville  so I definitely found it easy to picture the Nashville scene etc. It also took me awhile to twig Fiddle= Violin!

What I loved:
Bailey- I instantly loved Bailey! I felt Bailey was very neglected by her family and definitely pushed out by her parents. Her parents had obviously brought her up with the sole aim of being a professional musician and then tossed her dreams aside when Julie got signed. I admired her continued dedication to music and her professionalism. I liked how observant she was especially on the Mall music circuit and how perceptive she was in regards to Sam although she was still too trusting of him! Overall I really enjoyed reading Bailey's character and loved the way she matured throughout the book
Sam- I both loved and hated Sam! I loved how determined and charming he was especially as it became clear he was much more of a gentleman than a heartbreaker. I admired how devoted he was to music and his band and how he'd gone out of his way to get the 'right' people. However at times he was cruelly single minded and disregarded other people's feelings and issues in the pursuit of a bigger gig or a contract. He also didn't seem to accept how his actions affected other people's feelings. I also liked the dynamic between him and his Dad when they were playing together, it wasn't a conventional father/son dynamic but it was interesting to read1
Music- I loved the role music played in Dirty Little Secret. I loved the Mall impersonator circuit and how professional and talented they all were to be able to seamlessly play with different people everyday. I liked how the Nashville gig scene was portrayed, it felt very realistic and again full of talent! I loved the composition of Sam's band and how cleverly they blended different genres and eras of songs in their sets. I felt the role music had really made the book unique and stand out.

What I didn't love as much:
Family- I could not believe how Bailey's family treated her. Her mother was overly ambitious and fame hungry her Dad weak and even Julie clearly had no real issue with leaving her sister in the dust weighed down by restrictions that weren't hers to pursue her own dreams.

Rating!
I'm so glad Jennifer Echols lived up to all the great things I'd heard about her. Dirty Little Secret was full of brilliantly crafted characters, with a vivid setting and an engaging plot!

Which Jennifer Echols book should I try next?
Much Love!

Behind the Cover~ Stripped by Brooklyn Skye.

College freshman Quinn Montgomery will do anything to avoid the mistake her sister made—killing herself over a boy. But when she is forced into nude modelling at a local college to support her family after a bankruptcy, she begins to crack, just enough to let Torrin, the university’s top varsity oarsman, see that the real Quinn is not as feisty and unapproachable as she wants everyone to think. But letting someone in comes at a steep cost and, it turns out, Torrin is connected to Quinn’s family in more ways than she could ever imagine.

I love Stripped, I reviewed it back in May! So today I'm excited to have Brooklyn Skye for a Behind the Cover post!

***STRIPPED Cover Photo Shoot: Behind the Scenes***
Hi! Thanks for having me! Sometimes people don’t realize what goes in to making a book cover, so I wanted to share with you a look into making mine. This is my cover designer:

Her name is Lisa of Lisa Poff Photography
and this picture doesn’t do her any justice (she’s beautiful!). Anyway, when I originally sat down with her to brainstorm what type of cover I was looking for, I mentioned the owl necklace needed to be featured and possibly the hands. She didn’t say much—to which point I was thinking (crap!) maybe she didn’t quite grasp the concept I was going for. Turns out I worried for nothing because a few days later she sent me these proofs:

Amazing, right? Once we decided on the proof, she got to work making it absolutely fabulous. Below is the editing timeline of the proof we choose, from raw picture to edited to cover:

I can’t tell you what an amazing experience it has been working with Lisa. And I hope you guys love the cover as much as I do!

Wow! I love this process and Stripped has the most beautiful cover!

What do you like best about the cover? I love the owl necklace detail.
Much Love!

Cover Reveal: Lennon's Rain by Chris Myers.

Sometimes in love, you choose wrong…
Eight years ago, Lennon lost his heart to Rain, and suddenly she’s back, all grown up and setting his world on fire. At a sorority party, he convinces himself that outbidding every other guy for a body shot from Rain is for charity. But he knows better. He doesn’t want any guy, except him, tarnishing the memory of the little girl he proposed to in fifth grade. He realizes too late his actions could destroy his relationship with Jinx, a girl he worships and adores.
Jinx loves Lennon and is past ready for him to make his move. With his reputation, his lack of action makes her believe he isn’t physically attracted to her. Jinx fears she is losing him, and the only way to keep him is to overcome her past and sleep with Lennon.
Rain knows Lennon is trouble. If she couldn’t say no to the gangly boy asking her to skateboard off some roof, how will she refuse Lennon's seductive powers now that he is a man? Rain has many reasons to resist his charm. He has a girlfriend, he’s moving to LA with her, and Rain has no intention to stand in the long parade of Lennon Tyler conquests.
Now, Lennon must choose, meaning someone has to lose, and that person could be him.
I liked Lennon's Jinx and this cover model is hot!
Looking forward to this one :)

Much Love!

Cover Reveal: Finding It by Cora Carmack

Most girls would kill to spend months traveling around Europe after college graduation with no responsibility, no parents, and no-limit credit cards. Kelsey Summers is no exception. She's having the time of her life...or that's what she keeps telling herself.
It's a lonely business trying to find out who you are, especially when you're afraid you won't like what you discover. No amount of drinking or dancing can chase away Kelsey's loneliness, but maybe Jackson Hunt can. After a few chance meetings, he convinces her to take a journey of adventure instead of alcohol. With each new city and experience, Kelsey's mind becomes a little clearer and her heart a little less hers. Jackson helps her unravel her own dreams and desires. But the more she learns about herself, the more Kelsey realizes how little she knows about Jackson.

I loved Losing It and Faking It so I know I will love Finding It!
Gorgeous cover, follows the theme of the other covers :)

Much Love!
