Challenge Update 3

I keep my challenges tab updated with all the books I've read for each challenge etc. However I thought it was a good idea to do an overall update for myself!
Last check in before the end of the year and I'm feeling more positive.

Challenge Update 1!

Quarter Challenge check in!
I keep my challenges tab updated with all the books I've read for each challenge etc. but I thought it was a good idea to do an overall update for myself!

Hosted by Elyssa at Books and Iced Coffee
Aim: 15
Status: 4
Update: I'd got three YA books sat on my bedside table so I think I should do well with this challenge especially as summer usually heralds quite a few YA releases!

Aim: 5-9
Status: 1

Update: I'm great at reading bits of books but not so much whole books- definitely working on this one. I think I will be rereading a few series books before reading the next instalment so hopefully I will get into this challenge!

Hosted by Evie of Bookish
Aim: 11-20
Status: 3

Update: Slowly making progress, I do have quite a few TBR books sat on my shelf that have been there for a while though.....

hosted by Bonnie of Bookish Ardour
Aim: 15
Status: 1

Update: Slow progress again but I'm waiting on a few releases!

Aim: 25
Status: 6
Update: I'm not quite on top of this challenge- I definitely need to calm down with the requesting!

hosted by b00k r3vi3ws
Aim: 26-50
Status: 8
Update: I don't feel like I've read as many new authors as this time last year but I think I've had a slower start to the year so maybe that's why?

hosted by Swoony Boys Podcast and Fic Fare
Aim: 21Status: 2
Update:
I'm actually really happy with this challenge I feel like I'm making a more conscious effort to read some of the books that have been on my shelf for a while!
So far I think I'm doing pretty well across the challenge board. I definitely feel like a lot of challenges overlap, for example, a lot of my TBR pile books are real books and I tend to try new authors through NetGalley so hopefully I will do a better job with my challenges this year!

Challenge Update!

We're halfway through 2013 which means I'm halfway through my 2013 challenges!
I keep my challenges tab updated with all the books I've read for each challenge etc. but I thought it was a good point to do an overall update! :)

Hosted by Faye at Daydreamer's thoughts
Objective: To diversify my reading!
Aim: Cautious- 12 books=12 genres
Status: 4/12
Update: Going ok! Got a few different genres lined up read so I'm optimistic of completing this one.

Hosted by Sarah of Feeling Fictional
Objective: To be aware of more British authors!
Aim: The challenge is 12 books!
Status: *tumbleweed...*

Update: This one is off to an awfully poor start! I'm going to really focus on it over the summer as I have most of the books lined up, I just need to buy/borrow them :/

Hosted by Evie of Bookish
Objective: To give equal attention to older books on my book shelves!
Aim: A Friendly Hug-11-20 books! Hopefully will do better than my similar 2012 challenge!
Status: 5/11-20.

Update: I feel this one is plodding along slowly but surely! It's more a question of making sure I pick up the older books I already have instead of picking up new ones!

hosted by Bonnie of Bookish Ardour
Objective: To continue my love affair with dystopia!
Aim: Contagion= 15 books!
Status: 4/15.

Update: I've got quite a few sequels etc. lined up for summer! I like to have a lot of time set aside for Dystopia so I can read them straight through!

Objective: To continue my love of 'New Adult'
Aim: Living On Your Own= 20 books!
Status: 20/20

Update: Completed!! 2013 has been a great year for New Adult releases so far so it was almost too easy! Hoping to upgrade to Fully Independent which is a minimum of 30 books.
hosted by b00k r3vi3ws
Objective: To make sure I give new to me authors a chance!
Aim: Lover= 11-20 New Authors
Status: 18/20
Update: Whoooo! I'm surprised by how well I've done on this one! I think it is heavily connected to the TBR and New Adult challenges as a lot of those books were new to me authors.

Objective: To keep reading new contemporaries!
Aim: Level 2= 10+ Books!
Status: 3/10
Update:
Slow start to this because I think a lot of YA contemporary are released in the summer months!

I think I'm doing ok with all my challenges.
Some have raced ahead and others have been slower to start but six months in and it's looking positive I'll do better than last year!

Let me know how your challenges are going!
Much Love!
Lettie.

Once Upon a Readthon: Day One

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

This Readathon is hosted by Lori at Pure Imagination, Candace at Candace's Book Blog, and Angela at Reading Angel f. It runs from 12:01 AM on July 9 to 11:59 PM on July 11th.

Cover Mini Challenge!
Hosted by Bailey of IB Book Blogging

Question 1:What is your favourite cover that has been revealed this summer and why?
I have only just seen the Reached cover so I think it must be a recent reveal but I might be wrong!
Reached by Ally Condie- I love how it fits in so well with Matched and Crossed. On the Matched cover the girl was trapped inside of a ball, Crossed the girl is beginning to break out. Reached, the final book in the series, features the girl completely free of the ball- clever and beautiful!

Dreamless by Josephine Angelini- Again a cover that fits well with the previous book! I love the vivid colour and the continuation of the lightening theme. I can't say how well it fits with the series itself as Starcrossed is on my TBR list but this beautiful cover is bumping it up my list!

Question 2: Do you rely on the cover to help you choose whether you want to read a book or not?

If I'm browsing in a bookshop then yes an attractive cover will be the reason I pick up a radom book, this happened recently with Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. I'm much less likely to pick up a book with a boring or ugly cover- for example the original blue and orange Hunger Games covers made me think they were 'boys' books so I didn't give them a second glance.
However if I'm browsing online I'll go on the books recommended on the Amazon page of a book I already love or check out what's popular in the blog world and see if I like the sound of it! I also have been known to buy the US version of books if I really dislike the UK cover. Still need to learn not to judge a book by it's cover!

Progress So Far

If you saw my goal post here you will see I completely deviated from my plan! This book snuck up on me and I'm loving it! It's hard to keep up with all the names and ages due to reading so quickly. I'm also being a good blogger and making review notes on it so I won't get confused when I write a review after the readathon. :)

Next- Who Knows!

Let me know what you think of the Reached and Dreamless covers!
Are you taking part in the Readathon? How are you doing so far?

Much Love!
