Vain by Fisher Amelie.

If you’re looking for a story about a good, humble girl, who’s been hurt by someone she thought she could trust, only to find out she’s not as vulnerable as she thought she was and discovers an empowering side of herself that falls in love with the guy who helps her find that self, blah, blah, blah...then you’re gonna’ hate my story.
Because mine is not the story you read every time you bend back the cover of the latest trend novel. It’s not the “I can do anything, now that I’ve found you/I’m misunderstood but one day you’ll find me irresistible because of it” tale. Why? Because, if I was being honest with you, I’m a complete witch. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a friend using, drug abusing, sex addict from Los Angeles. I’m every girlfriend’s worst nightmare and every boy’s fantasy.
I’m Sophie Price...And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most envied girl to the girl no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world
.

First Impressions!
It wasn't quite what I was expecting but it was so engaging from the start!

What I loved:
Sophie- I actually adored Sophie, her character really grew and developed realistically throughout the book. Initially her actions did make her hard to like but she was clearly a product of her environment. Sophie was so self aware that you got a clear understanding of her rationale and her changing personality. I loved the way she got stuck in once she was in Uganda and how readily she adopted Karina and Charles. I loved her relationship with Ian, more on that below! Ultimately Sophie was 100% better than I expected, I found her a realistic flawed character who grew slowly into a more realised person with a great perspective on life.
Uganda- I loved the Uganda setting. It made the book so unique and brought up important messages and perceptions. I think the struggles and dangers of life in Uganda even for Sophie and Ian really made a difference to the usual personal or emotional issues of New Adult. I also loved that the book gave me a different perceptive and awareness of Uganda and the work of orphanages etc.
Ian- *sigh* I loved his selfless dedication to the orphanage and Karina and Charles especially as his background was revealed.
Relationship- I liked the slow tentative approach to the relationship between Ian and Sophie, it made it seem more realistic as they were initially so different to each other. I adored all the little things Ian had been doing for Sophie without her knowing like cleaning out the bugs from the shower- so sweet!
Side cast- I absolutely loved the children and staff at the orphanage, there were all so lovely. I especially enjoyed the individual personalities of the children. Karina and Charles were such selfless characters who had created such a beautiful and relatively safe home and environment for the children. I liked how non judgemental they were towards Sophie and really encouraged her to grow.  I loved Ian's brother and father, they were such good fun and very accepting and encouraging. From LA the only character I really liked was Spencer. I liked that he seemed to actually care about Sophie and treated her as a friend not an object. I look forward to reading his story. I also loved Penbrook, he was the father Sophie deserved, I liked how their relationship developed and Sophie recognised how good to her he was.

What I didn't love as much:
Parents- Sophie's parents were awful. Her mother was non existent I don't think she spoke one word to Sophie in the whole book. Her dad was just as bad using her as a commodity for his own gain. He did show interest in her life towards the end though so he was the 'better' parent... Ian's mother wasn't the most accepting either.
Blurb- I don't think the blurb did a great job selling the concept of the book very well. I've put the book off for ages bacuse of tha! no mention of the main setting! Even all the covers!

Rating!
Unexpectedly humbling, informative and entertaining. Great read!

Have you read this series?

Greed by Fisher Amelie Teaser!

Gather ‘round, love, because I want you. I want what you have, I want what you don’t have, I want more of what I already have. I want. But if you so much as ask for something in return, go ahead and walk away. Know if you want to play in my world, it’s every man for themselves and the weak become mine. Leeches will be obliterated because I make it my job to destroy them. I protect what’s mine and I take what’s yours…because that’s what I do. I want.
My story will not endear me to you and, frankly, I could care less if it does because I’m in this for the money and nothing else. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a corrupt, money hungry, immoral asshole from Los Angeles. I’m every man’s worst nightmare and every girl’s fantasy.
I’m Spencer Blackwell…And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most coveted guy to the guy no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Finally back with my Greed teaser!!
“I’m here. Room five-seven-eight.”
“Lobby,” was my only response.
I hung up. I’d reimburse her for the room as I always did, to avoid a paper trail.
By the time I entered the lobby after walking the remainder of the lot, Lola sat secreted in a corner next to the cool steel sculpture at the room’s center. She stood when she saw me, devastatingly beautiful. She inclined her head and I reciprocated. She eyed me with appreciation but as always, she did nothing for me. Uncommonly pretty but not much else. Also, never dip your pen in the company ink, gentlemen, even if the company isn’t necessarily aware she’s stocked.
We entered the hotel bar. I, casually with my jacket unbuttoned and a single hand in my front pocket and she, as seductive as any femme fatale there ever was. I spotted my target, Peter Knight, waiting at the bar, studying a whiskey neat twirling in the glass before him. Damn, I cursed under my breath. He’d beaten me there. He didn’t notice Lola either, though, making my stomach clench a little in hesitation. I hoped he was distracted instead of the stand-up guy I suspected he was. I fought the nausea.
Lola and I sat together in the darkest corner of the bar, as out of sight as we could possibly get. Peter Knight kept glancing at his watch, waiting for the meeting with an executive that would never come. He ordered one more whiskey and that was my cue. I glanced at Lola, nodding once and she stood, making her way toward Peter, choosing a seat two down from him.
She ordered the same drink Peter had because we’d done our research. Her hand covered the rim of the glass, the drug she’d held in her palm fell to the bottom. I could tell it had already begun to dissolve. Her hands moved to the sides of the glass to cover the effects.
I knew when it was fully mixed because her hands fell flat on the bar top. She leaned back into her stool and displayed her breasts, her arms moving to rest on her lap. Every man with a pulse, including Peter this time, took note of her. She was effortless. She smiled lasciviously at him.
“Hi,” I heard her breathe.
Peter only nodded once and turned back to his drink. Confirmed. He looked but he didn’t touch. My jaw pressed tightly. Damn, he didn’t take the bait. Plan B.
Lola quickly glanced my way and imperceptibly shook her head once. I stood, coolly removed a handkerchief from my front left pocket, patted my neck and forehead, replaced it, smoothed out my jacket, tugged at my cufflinks ensuring the cuffs were stiff and made my way to the bar top, sliding into the stool right next to Peter. He smiled at me then glanced at his watch once more. I was running out of time. The bartender approached me.
“What’ll it be?” he asked.
“What are you drinking?” I asked Peter.
He smiled. “Macallan, eighteen, neat.” “The same,” I said with a grin, oozing charm. Open up room for conversation.
“Popular tonight,” the bartender said simply, making my adrenaline spike.
“It’s a great vintage,” I hedged.
We silently watched the bartender pour me a matching glass and walk away to attend another customer. I internally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Jonathan,” I lied, extending a hand. I was always Jonathan. I don’t think “Lola” knew it as anything else during our little charades.
“Peter,” he answered, taking it.
I took a sip then set the glass down, nervously twisting it back and forth in the palms of my hands. I sat up slightly, checking my actions, and angled myself toward him, making eye contact. Establish trust. I breathed deeply, taking yet another sip. Don’t waste time.
“Are you from the area?” I asked.
“No, actually, I...” he started but before he could finish, I faked a clumsy movement, sweeping the pen he had sitting on the bar top next to him onto the floor.
“I’m so sorry,” I said, as we both made a move to retrieve the pen.
I grabbed it first and awkwardly fumbled with it, distracting him further. Hope he buys this. I watched through my peripheral as Lola subtly switched her roofie-laced whisky with his glass. When she righted herself, I handed it back to him. He sat back in his stool.
“Butter fingers,” I joshed.
He took a swig, a third of the glass’ contents gone. “Nervous?” Peter asked, more astute than I previously gave him credit for.
I went with it. “Uh, yeah. I’m meeting a girl here. Blind date.” I noticed Lola smirk.
“Well, that explains it,” he laughed, slapping me on my sore shoulder. I took the pain. I deserved it. “Get out early, I always say. Dating is the pits,” he joked.
I cleared my throat and followed his lead as he took another swig, unaware of the poison streaming down his gullet.
“Married then?”
“Yes.” He sighed. “Thirty years next week, actually.”
I felt beads of sweat pour down my back at the declaration. He took yet another sip. I narrowly stopped myself from swiping the glass from his hands. Even if he drops, which he will, you can still back out. Just help him to his room. He’ll think he’d had too much. He’ll only wake up with a great night’s sleep.
“And you’re still happy?” I asked, ignoring my conscience, grasping for anything terrible, anything that could justify what I was about to do.
“Oh, you know, it’s not easy, not all the time anyway, but I can honestly say I am genuinely happy with Maggie. She’s my everything, if I was being candid.” He laughed at some private joke. I hated jokes. My punch line would destroy him if his wife ever found out.
My gut began to ache so terribly, my hand inadvertently scrubbed at my neck. He mistook it for nerves.
“Don’t worry, son. I’m waiting for someone, too, though it looks like he’s a no-show, and I flew in all the way this close to Christmas for nothing. Anyway, I’ll wait with you.”
“That’s so kind of you,” I told him honestly as he finished his drink. He ordered another.
I glanced at Lola and she lightly tapped at her wrist but avoided eye contact.
Peter and I spoke of nothing consequential during the following fifteen minutes, but when that time came to a close, he appeared inebriated. So much so, that the bartender stopped by.
“Is he staying here?” he asked. “Wish I’d known the guy couldn’t hold his liquor.” “It’s not a problem. He’s got a room here,” I told him. “Don’t worry, he’s a friend. I’ll take him back to his room.”
He nodded in answer, setting our tabs down on the bar top. I paid his as well as my tab in cash to avoid trace backs or, for that matter, waiting any longer. The drugs were taking effect and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to handle his dead weight despite my daily reps of two-eighty-five.
I made a move to stand as Peter slumped forward a little. You waited too long. “Come on, dude,” I told him, throwing his arm over my shoulder. We made our way toward the elevators.
“You’re a good man,” Peter slurred. “That’s rare...someone so young.”
I didn’t respond, couldn’t respond, really.
We barely made it to the elevators. I pitched him inside and sat him against the sidewall then held the door open with my hand, praying no one else would come. Lola quickly emerged ten seconds later without a word spoken and we let the doors close.
“We waited too long,” Lola said, when we reached her floor. She stuck her head out when the doors opened. “It’s clear,” she said.
I swung middle-aged Peter Knight onto my shoulders with only a little difficulty, glad for the minute rest I’d gotten between supporting his weight during the walk through the lobby and reaching Lola’s floor. “Lead the way,” I told her.
Lola took me to her room, quickly unlocked the door and we entered. The entire ordeal couldn’t have taken more than five minutes, but it felt like an eternity. I pitched him onto the bed. He laid there, clothes in disarray, hair mussed and snoring.
Lola and I watched him for a good thirty seconds, waiting for him to stir, but he didn’t. He was dead to the world.
“Shall we get started?” she asked.
I vacillated back and forth between right and wrong, willing myself to walk away, begging myself to figure a way out, but no argument was more convincing than the mil I was getting paid. Besides, I thought, as long as he complies, this is not a big deal at all. He can go back to his wife and kids and I can go back to Brown a little bit wealthier.
“Yes,” I answered.
Lola slithered from her dress and stood in her lace bustier and garters, let her curled hair down and went to the mirror, leaning over to freshen up her lipstick. I went to the bag on her bathroom counter and removed the SLR, slid on the power button and waited for her at the foot of the bed. I watched her, taking in her beautiful body, admiring her, internally acknowledging why she was the most expensive call girl I knew. She caught me staring in the mirror and smiled with beautifully perfect white teeth.
That’s when I noticed it. She was breath-taking, yes, but if you really took stock of her, took in her little flaws, she was revolting. Nose tinged red from recently snorting. Of course, I thought, how else could you do what you did. Slight bruising expertly covered up with makeup around the throat and arms, evidence of her profession. I thought of my sister and wondered if Lola had a brother or even a father. Ribs protruding, proof to the naked eye that she starved herself to stay thin. Another product of our society. Another otherwise gorgeous girl made ugly by the pressures and influence of an L.A. life. I turned my head and observed the man sleeping in front of me.
And how are you different? I asked myself. You’d do just about anything for money. You’d risk this man’s wife and family. And for what? So that your dad can manipulate another business deal to make him even more cash than he already has? More cash to spend in places where cash needn’t be spent?
Lola crawled across the bed, yanking at Peter’s tie, and licking the side of his face, posing with her leg wrapped around his.

Another million can give you better security, ensure you can live within the lifestyle you’re accustomed, eventually give you freedom from him.
Lola switched it up. She unbuttoned his shirt and spread her lacquered nails across his chest, pressing closely to him and smiling a viper’s expression at the camera.
Click.
It’s not likely this Maggie woman will ever see these photos anyway. It’s low risk and you get a cool mil out of a night’s work.
Lola straddled him, unbuckling his pants and threw her head back in mock satisfaction.

Greed is the second book in Fisher's The Seven Deadly series! It should be available in October!

Callum and Harper by Fisher Amelie.

Life sucks for orphans Callum Tate and Harper Bailey.
Kicked out of their foster homes because they suffer the 'eighteen disease' with nothing but a hundred dollar check from the government and a pat on the back, they're forced to rely on a system that failed them miserably.
So they sit. They sit inside Social Services, waiting for their social workers to call their names and offer them the miracle they know will never come but they sit anyway because they have nowhere else to go, no other options on their very literal and figurative empty plates.
But as they sit, they notice the other. Although captivated, they each come to the conclusion that life is complicated enough without throwing in a boiling tension that can't ever be acted upon because they're both too busy thinking about where their next meal will come from but when their names are called and both are placed on a year long waiting list for permanent housing, suddenly relying on each other seems like a very viable plan B.
And, oh, how lovely Plan B's can be.
Well, except for the psycho from Harper's past that haunts her and, oh, yeah, there's the little issue that neither of them knows they're in love with the other.
Needless to say, Callum & Harper's life just got a bit more complicated.
“One day, you and I are gonna’ wake up and be alright. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but one day. One day. I promise you.” - Callum Tate

Why?
I have been meaning to read Callum and Harper since I loved Thomas and January last year!

Five Things about Callum and Harper!
Coincidences- Callum and Harper is a sweet story of coincidences! I loved that they were both unlucky enough to need emergency Foster care that that coincidental meeting led down such a complex path!
Callum - Callum is a sweet and clever guy who had an unlucky start in life. I loved how he took Harper under his wing and really looked out for her!
Harper- Harper was sweet and naïve especially for a foster child. I liked how much
Side Cast- Great side cast! I knew I'd love Cherry, she was just as bubbly and welcoming as she was Thomas and January. Charlie was a great guy, I would love to read more on him and Cherry! It was great to read Tom before Thomas and January, I could really see the change in his personality. All of the side cast were warm and welcoming people, I loved how they just accepted Harper into their group and made her feel accepted especially how they helped her out with so many different aspects of her life.
Miscommunication- Callum and Harper were so awful at communicating with each other! It started to annoy me towards the end because they knew each toerh so well but just never discussed important things!

I really liked learning all the backstory and Callum and Harper had such a sweet story!

Are you a Fisher Amelie fan?
Come back later for a Greed teaser!
Much Love!

Interview: Fisher Amelie

I've been a fan of Fisher Amelie since I read Thomas and January almost a year ago! So I'm thrilled to have her here for a feature day! First up an interview!

About Fisher Amelie.
Where were you born?
I was born in Wichita, Kansas on a farm with my aunt and uncle. I’d often help out, typically in the pigsties. This one time, sheesh, I was balancing myself as I walked across the pigsty fence line and fell in.  Wait a minute…Only the Wichita part of that was true. Though, I do own a pair of sparkly red pumps. Haayaay! Anyway, I was born in Wichita but left at the tender age of five for the world of Larry Hagman, sans the drama. Basically, the ‘burbs of Dallas.
Where do you call home?
I live in my head but I reside in Dallas still. I have a pretty little family of my own now and I’d say they were my home.
Is writing your full-time Career?
Writing is my full time career. I dig it, a lot. It’s, like, my favourite thing to do in the entire world. I get giddy butterflies when I sit at a blank screen. It’s such a high.
Essentially I have two full time jobs, though. I’ve got kids so all you mama’s out there know where I’m coming from on this.

About Writing.
Where do your ideas come from?
Oh, man, you know, they come from everywhere but usually they’re inspired by things I read. For instance, for VAIN I’d just read this amazing book called Kisses from Katie. Its author Katie Davis dropped all her college plans, moved to Uganda at nineteen and decided, “I’m gonna’ stay and adopt a bunch of incredible kids and feed a bunch of incredible people.” It was her fate and I was so in awe of her. Anyway, her story inspired me to dream up VAIN.
How do you plan your books?
I lay out a basic plot line for the novel just to create my skeleton before delving a bit deeper into plotting out the subplots. All my characters get their own page of description where I go so far as to describe where and how they grew up and how that built them into the person they are. I create an entire world before I even write the first word so I cannot be taken by surprise.
Do you plan an entire series, or take it book-by-book?
My series are strange in that they aren’t chronological to one particular set of main characters. I don’t like writing MC’s for more than one book. I’m not sure why but I get tired of them quickly. I like to move on so I build my series as a sequence of stand alones, usually borrowing secondary characters from previous novels and making them my main characters.
How do you pick your covers?
I have the distinct advantage of having a genius marketing executive for a hubs. When I say genius, I mean he’s unfairly gifted with extraordinary creative talent. I tell him what I think I kind of, sort of want. He disregards that usually and gives me what I actually want. Then, voila! I don’t like to brag but my covers really are incredible. :D

What's Next?
What is your next book about? (140 characters or less!)
Spencer Blackwell is his father’s wicked pawn but he feels he doesn’t have a choice because his bank account can't take the hit regardless if his soul is turning as black as the deeds he’s hired to do.
Will this book be part of a series?
GREED is book two of The Seven Deadly Series.
What was your favourite part to write and why?
Funnily enough, my favourite part is a section I’ve yet to write. The ending is going to be DYNAMITE! It’s just so powerful and so emotional.
What else are you working on?
At the moment, nothing else. GREED consumes me…the novel, not the sin. Nyuck, nyuck.

Five Random Questions!
Ebook or paper/hardback? Ebook.
Favourite colour? Teal.
Favourite character you’ve created? Ian Aberdeen of VAIN.
Dream holiday destination? Somewhere remote and somewhere tropical. Bring on the sun, baby!
What are you reading at the moment? The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

I have to agree Fisher's covers are absolutely gorgeous!
Stay tuned for a Callum and Harper post and a Greed teaser!

Much Love!
Lettie.

Sneak Peek!
A sneak peek of the first chapter of Vain!

Six weeks after graduation and Jerrick had been dead for three of them. You’d have thought it would’ve been enough for us all to take a breather from our habits, but it wasn’t.
I bent to snort the line of coke in front of me.
“Brent looks very tempting tonight, doesn’t he?” I asked Savannah, or Sav as I called her for short, when I lifted my head and wiped my nose.
Savannah turned her glassy eyes away from her Special K laced O.J., her head wavering from side to side. “Yeah,” she lazily slurred out, “he looks hot tonight.” Her glazed eyes perked up a bit but barely. “Why?”
“I’m thinking about saying hello to him.” I smiled wickedly at my pseudo-best friend and she smiled deviously back.
“You’re such a bitch,” she teased, prodding my tanned leg with her perfectly manicured nail. “Ali will never forgive you for it.”
Yes, she will,” I said, standing and smoothing out my pencil skirt.
I could’ve been considered a dichotomy of dressers. I never showed much in the way of skin because, well, my father would have killed me, but that didn’t stop me from choosing pieces that kept the boys’ tongues wagging. For instance, everything I owned was skin tight because I had the body for it, and because it always got me what I wanted. I loved the way the boys stared. I loved the way they wanted me. It felt powerful.
“How do you know?” Sav asked, her head heavily lolling back and forth on the back of the leather settee in her father’s office.
No one was allowed in that room, party or no, but we didn’t care. Sav’s parents went to Italy on a whim, leaving her house as the inevitable destination for that weekend’s “Hole,” as we called them. The Hole was code for wherever we decided to “hole up” for the weekend. My group of friends was, at the risk of sounding garish, wealthy. That’s an understatement. We were filthy, as we liked to tease one another, double meaning and all. Someone’s house was always open some random weekend because all our parents travelled frequently, mine especially. In fact, almost every other weekend, the party was at my home. This isn’t why I ruled the roost, so to speak. It wasn’t even because I was the wealthiest. My dad was only number four on that list. No, I ruled because I was the hottest.
You see, I’m one of the beautiful people. That truly sounds so odd to have to explain, but it’s the truth nonetheless. I’m beautiful, and it’s not because I have a healthy dose of self-esteem, though I have plenty of that. It’s obvious in the way I look in the mirror, yes, but even more obvious in the way everyone treats me. I rule this roost because I’m the most wanted by all the guys, and all the girls want to be my friend because of it.
“How do you know?” she asked again, agitated I hadn’t yet answered.
This made my blood boil. “Stuff it, Sav,” I ordered. She’d forgotten who I was and I needed to remind her.
“Sorry,” she said sheepishly, shrinking slightly into herself.
“Sorry,” she said sheepishly, shrinking slightly into herself.
“I know because they always do. Besides, when I’m done with their boys, I give them back. They consider it their dues.”
“Trust me,” she said quietly toward the wall, “they do not consider it their dues.”
“Is this about Brock, Sav?” I huffed. “God, you are such a whiny brat. If he was willing to cheat on you so easily, he wasn’t worth it. Consider it a favour.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right,” she conceded but didn’t sound truly convinced. “You saved me, Soph.”
“You’re welcome, Sav,” I replied sweetly and patted her head. “Now, I’m off to find Brent.”
I stood in front of the mirror above her dad’s desk and inspected myself.
Long, silky, straight brown hair down to my elbows. I had natural blonde highlights throughout its mass. I’d recently cut my bangs so that they fell straight across my forehead. I ruffled them so they lay softly over my brows. I studied them and felt my blood begin to boil. The majority of girls at Jerrick’s funeral suddenly had the same cut and it royally pissed me off. God! Get a clue, nimrods. You’ll never look like me! I puckered my lips and applied a little gloss over them. My lips were full and pink enough that I didn’t need much colour. My skin was tanned from lying by the pool too much after graduation, and I’d made a mental note to keep myself indoors for a bit. Don’t need wrinkles, Soph. My light gold eyes were the colour of amber and were perfect, but I noticed my lashes needed a touch more mascara. I did this only to darken them up a bit, not because they weren’t long enough. Like I said, I was practically flawless.
“He won’t know what hit him,” I told myself in the mirror. Sav mistook this for speaking to her and I rolled my eyes when she responded.
“You play a sick game, Sophie Price.”
“I know,” I admitted, turning her direction, a fiendish expression on my unblemished face.

Sophie sounds like a character you'll love to hate! I already love how blunt and arrognant she is!
I will be reviewing this one in February!

Good Luck with the giveaway :)
Much Love!

Lettie Loves: Cover Judging!

New post which will feature book/reading related things I love! This post is on
Cover Judging!

Most readers are guilty of judging a book by it's cover at least once!
I've always spent ages perusing bookshops waiting for a book to catch my eye and now I tend to browse kindle for pretty covers and preview them! I am definitely guilty of cover judging! However I do pick up more books than I reject based on their covers so maybe I'm a positive judge?
As it is YA and NA Contemporary Month I thought I would share with you a couple of books I decided to read purely based on their covers!

When I posted the cover on one of my Monday posts the majority of the comments were about how beautiful this cover is! I think it is such an unique and gorgeous cover!  Most importantly this book lives up to the cover! Review!

This cute cover kept popping up on blogs and catching my eye! It is so sweet with it's juxtaposition of ballet and boy's trainers. This one turned out more spicy than sweet but just as good as it looks!

My Heart for Yours
How can one book be allowed to have TWO such gorgeous covers?? I love how they both have a  cute 'young love' theme to them! I'm very glad this one caught my eye as it led to about 5 other awesome books!

This intriguing cover was randomly suggested to me by Amazon and is responsible for really kickstarting my trust in 'indie' books as well as making me a Sea Breeze groupie! The cover really stood out as it has so many hints to the actual book such as the case and the key.

Clearly certain cover themes draw me in such as hearts on windows! I really loved this cover from afar for ages and finally got around to buying it... Lets just say I actually returned it to Amazon- guess covers can't always be trusted!

What do you think? Are you guilty of serial cover judging?
Have any of these books caught your eye?
Much Love!

Thomas and January by Fisher Amelie

Thomas Eriksson thinks he has it all figured out.

"People crossed the street when they saw me. I’m not really sure why that was. I mean, okay, I might have looked a bit intimidating if I was being truthful with you. I’d changed since New York. New York represented a life that wasn’t real, not truthfully, anyway. No, New York was the “young, immature, in love, idiot" side of Tom. The “Tie-Dye Tom of New York City” didn’t exist anymore. Tie-Dye Tom was dead."
January Mac Lochlainn thinks she’s her own worst enemy.
"I quit Berkeley. Threw away a full scholarship. Plans, you ask? What plans?"
But they’re both wrong.
***
Tom approached me slowly and met me under the light on the stone walkway. He leaned over me so closely, my neck craned to see his face. His expression was one of confusion as he studied my own.
“What is it about you?” he asked me.
I gulped. “What do you mean?” I whispered, closing my eyes and swallowing again, my breaths becoming laboured.
He lifted his hand and dragged the backs of his fingers across my jaw so lightly I barely felt them, but they made me feel dizzy all the same.
“How can you be this extraordinary, January MacLochlainn?” He leaned closer, a look of pure frustration and anger lit his eyes and pressed his lips. “And why couldn’t I have met you before I realised I didn’t want anyone...ever?”
Life for Thomas and January will never be the same again...whether they like it or not.

Beautiful cover, beautiful book! I did get a little confused as I haven't read Callum and Harper but it was still a great read!

What I loved:
  • Thomas- If I had been a good reader and book blogger I would have read Callum and Harper first and known Thomas' back story.... It was explained well but the changes in his personality would have been more meaningful! I appreciated his self deprecation, he obviously couldn't see what everyone else did!
  • January- I loved how spunky she was! She was devoted to her dreams and made a successful career out of it!
  • January's family- Children named for the months? Brilliant idea. Protesting over dramatic lawyer parents? So fun! Grandma Betty was a great character who welcomed January's future plan with open arms- perfect grandma!
  • Ending- Loved the ending! It resolved Thomas and January, everyone was happy and it felt like it showed a bit of Callum and Harper too!
  • Music and Plot- I loved how music was interwoven with the plot. I actually felt like I would of listened to a playlist and enjoyed it with this book- it was such a part of the story and the journey.
What I didn't love as much:
  • Jonah- So sneaky and underhanded! If you aren't good at scouting music than don't be a scout!
  • Length- I would have loved to read more about January's family, the music business or all of it! I just wanted it to be longer!

Once I finish up all my current reads I will be buying Callum and Harper asap- Thomas and January was such a quick good read with very few faults!

Have you read Callum and Harper? Did I make a book blogger error in not reading it first?
Much Love!
