Blog and Life Update!

So I survived my PGCE and I've got myself a job for next year!
Yay! I'm focussing these next few weeks on my blog as I've been reading my way through my massive haul of books! I feel like I've missed lots of releases and dramas so I'm looking forward to getting back in to it!

However in August I will be jetting down under to travel Australia with my best friend (who lives in Melbourne) for 3 weeks! I'm hoping to schedule at least ten posts and use the long lonely flight as reading time!

Stay tuned this week for my Summer Bingo Challenge and a few Twitter reviews!
If you have any Australian books to recommend please comment below!

Much Love!

2014 Challenge Wrap Up!

I'm quite impressed by my challenge accomplishments, maybe my best ever despite reading less books overall! I will be posting my new challenges next week!

Aim: 15.
Status: Completed!
Comment: Yay! I'm glad I managed to get back into YA in 2014!

Aim: 5-9, Re-Reading Pro.

Hosted by Evie of Bookish
Aim: 11-20, A Friendly Hug.

hosted by Bonnie of Bookish Ardour
Aim: 15.
Status: 5.

Comment: I read more fantasy and less dystopia in 2014. I think as well an issue I've had is distinguishing fantasy and dystopia books as they seem to be overlapping genres!

Aim: 25, Silver.
Status: Completed!
Comment: Yay! I've been good at keeping up with reading my requested books I just need to get back to my reviewing schedule!

hosted by b00k r3vi3ws
Aim: 26-50, Lover.
Status: 21.
Comment: So close! I really glad that 28% of the books I read this year were first reads as I discovered some great authors!

hosted by Swoony Boys Podcast and Fic Fare
Aim: 21.
Status: 11.
Comment:
I have picked up more 'real' books this year as my overall reading level was down this challenge suffered!

hosted by The Book Vixen,
Aim: 140.

Comment: Well... I got halfway there! 2014 wasn't a great reading year for me.

8 challenges and 3 completed! Which is my all time best- I seem to be improving one challenge at a time!

How did you do in 2014? Any recommendation for 2015 challenges?
Much Love!

December Plans!

So I've been very AWOL since starting my teacher training course haven't I? I honestly had plans to be a good blogger and trainee teacher but the reality is I leave for school at 7.30am and get home at 7pm with planning and assignments filling up my time! I'm struggling to figure out this work/study/blog/life balance thing that everyone else seems to have worked out :/
If you have any tips let me know!

However I am currently recovering from Norovirus so I'm housebound for 48 hours and will be trying to write up posts ready for the end of the year!

Much Love!

Challenge Update 1!

Quarter Challenge check in!
I keep my challenges tab updated with all the books I've read for each challenge etc. but I thought it was a good idea to do an overall update for myself!

Hosted by Elyssa at Books and Iced Coffee
Aim: 15
Status: 4
Update: I'd got three YA books sat on my bedside table so I think I should do well with this challenge especially as summer usually heralds quite a few YA releases!

Aim: 5-9
Status: 1

Update: I'm great at reading bits of books but not so much whole books- definitely working on this one. I think I will be rereading a few series books before reading the next instalment so hopefully I will get into this challenge!

Hosted by Evie of Bookish
Aim: 11-20
Status: 3

Update: Slowly making progress, I do have quite a few TBR books sat on my shelf that have been there for a while though.....

hosted by Bonnie of Bookish Ardour
Aim: 15
Status: 1

Update: Slow progress again but I'm waiting on a few releases!

Aim: 25
Status: 6
Update: I'm not quite on top of this challenge- I definitely need to calm down with the requesting!

hosted by b00k r3vi3ws
Aim: 26-50
Status: 8
Update: I don't feel like I've read as many new authors as this time last year but I think I've had a slower start to the year so maybe that's why?

hosted by Swoony Boys Podcast and Fic Fare
Aim: 21Status: 2
Update:
I'm actually really happy with this challenge I feel like I'm making a more conscious effort to read some of the books that have been on my shelf for a while!
So far I think I'm doing pretty well across the challenge board. I definitely feel like a lot of challenges overlap, for example, a lot of my TBR pile books are real books and I tend to try new authors through NetGalley so hopefully I will do a better job with my challenges this year!
Let me know how your challenges are going!
Much Love!

Doing:

Baking! I'm shopping for all my Easter baking essentials to make Simnel cakes and Cornflake cakes.

Blogging:
I'm planning a new blog series about my first genre love, fantasy, as well as doing a challenge update!

What have you been up to?
Looking forward to Easter?

Behind the Blog: 4 Hearts to 4½ Hearts!

Last November when I changed up my rating system I decided to convert some ratings. I do sometimes rethink ratings so I thought I'd do a post about why.

Easy by Tammara Webber.
Lengths by Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt.
Lost and Found by Nicole Williams.
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

Why!
Reread
Since the original reading and reviewing I have picked up these five books over and over. Rereading scenes, refreshing my mind of quotes or simply reminding myself of how much I enjoyed them!
Start of a great series.
With Lengths and Lost and Found they both sparked great follow ups which I found myself loving but also realising how well written, characterised and enjoyable the first instalment was. With The Selection after The Elite I found cleverly hidden hints and great follow up on little details.
Unforgettable.
Most importantly these five books have continued to entertain me long after I have finished them!

Do you ever go back and change ratings?
Much Love

Behind the Blog: New Rating!

I created my rating system almost a year ago and I definitely feel like it has improved my reviews and made it a lot easy to differentiate between them.
However I do think it's time for a little update and refresh!

In!

4½ Hearts
~ I love it! It's almost perfect and I keep rereading it over and over!
It's lead me to read similar books or more of the same author.

I often feel like books I've read are more than 4 Hearts but not quite 5 so in comes 4½ hearts!
I definitely feel like 4½ hearts is needed as I always find myself struggling with my ratings, I imagine 4½ will be like an A and 5 like an A*!

Out!

2½ Hearts
I liked aspects of it but something really put me off...
I rarely use 2 or 2½ as a rating so it makes sense to combine 2 and 2½ into one rating!

I'm looking forward to implementing this new rating!
I'm going to do a mini series of posts on ratings and reviewing etc. just to make my new rating system more open and concise.

Let me know what you think!
Much Love!

Top Ten Tuesday: Spring TBR Update.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by: The Broke and the Bookish.
This week's topic: Spring TBR Update!

I'm doing a different topic this one but one that's long overdue! It's way past time to go back and see how many of my Spring TBR I actually got round to reading :)
Read!
The Elite by Kiera Cass- I loved The Elite, I cannot wait for the last book!
Crossing The Line by Katie McGarry- Great novella!

Didn't Buy Yet!
Crush by Nicole Williams and Wrecked by Alyssa Rose Ivy.
No real reason for these two I just haven't brought them yet.

Couldn't Find!
Invisibility by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan.- I couldn't find this one in any of my local bookshops until June!
Reckless by S.C Stephens- This one got released too late to be a Spring read!

Didn't Read.
Daughter of The Flames by Zoe Marriott, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin and ArchEnemy by Frank Beddor.
I didn't get around to reading these ones as my new job eats into my reading time and they are quite big books so I've been putting them off.

Miscellaneous.
Abbi Glines.
Abbi's Spring release wasn't part of the Sea Breeze series!

I didn't do too well did I? I do hope to read these books before 2014!

How'd you do?
Much Love!

Challenge Update!

We're halfway through 2013 which means I'm halfway through my 2013 challenges!
I keep my challenges tab updated with all the books I've read for each challenge etc. but I thought it was a good point to do an overall update! :)

Hosted by Faye at Daydreamer's thoughts
Objective: To diversify my reading!
Aim: Cautious- 12 books=12 genres
Status: 4/12
Update: Going ok! Got a few different genres lined up read so I'm optimistic of completing this one.

Hosted by Sarah of Feeling Fictional
Objective: To be aware of more British authors!
Aim: The challenge is 12 books!
Status: *tumbleweed...*

Update: This one is off to an awfully poor start! I'm going to really focus on it over the summer as I have most of the books lined up, I just need to buy/borrow them :/

Hosted by Evie of Bookish
Objective: To give equal attention to older books on my book shelves!
Aim: A Friendly Hug-11-20 books! Hopefully will do better than my similar 2012 challenge!
Status: 5/11-20.

Update: I feel this one is plodding along slowly but surely! It's more a question of making sure I pick up the older books I already have instead of picking up new ones!

hosted by Bonnie of Bookish Ardour
Objective: To continue my love affair with dystopia!
Aim: Contagion= 15 books!
Status: 4/15.

Update: I've got quite a few sequels etc. lined up for summer! I like to have a lot of time set aside for Dystopia so I can read them straight through!

Objective: To continue my love of 'New Adult'
Aim: Living On Your Own= 20 books!
Status: 20/20

Update: Completed!! 2013 has been a great year for New Adult releases so far so it was almost too easy! Hoping to upgrade to Fully Independent which is a minimum of 30 books.
hosted by b00k r3vi3ws
Objective: To make sure I give new to me authors a chance!
Aim: Lover= 11-20 New Authors
Status: 18/20
Update: Whoooo! I'm surprised by how well I've done on this one! I think it is heavily connected to the TBR and New Adult challenges as a lot of those books were new to me authors.

Objective: To keep reading new contemporaries!
Aim: Level 2= 10+ Books!
Status: 3/10
Update:
Slow start to this because I think a lot of YA contemporary are released in the summer months!

I think I'm doing ok with all my challenges.
Some have raced ahead and others have been slower to start but six months in and it's looking positive I'll do better than last year!

Let me know how your challenges are going!
Much Love!
Lettie.

Update!

Hi guys!

I've been in a bit of a blogging rut this month!
I started my new job (yay!) and I am DIYing my living room which takes up a lot of time and adjusting.
I also got a bit behind with my reviewing which always puts me off of blogging for some reason.
However this weekend I got back in my blogging groove and organised myself!
I've planned two reviews a week until the end of April at least plus some extra posts :)

Sorry I've been AWOL but I'm buckling down!

Much Love!
Lettie
